What is Conscious Sedation?

Conscious sedation is a state of deep relaxation induced by specialized medications. Unlike general anesthesia, you remain awake and able to follow instructions from your dentist, but you will feel no fear, tension, or pain.

It is an ideal solution for patients who avoid the dentist due to phobias, past traumatic experiences, or a strong gag reflex. At Bravodent, our anesthesiologists ensure your vital signs are monitored every second for maximum safety.

Who Should Consider Sedation?

We recommend sedation dentistry for various patient groups to ensure they receive the care they need in comfort.

Dental Phobia

If the mere thought of a dental office makes you anxious, conscious sedation can transform your experience into a peaceful nap.

Long Procedures

Complex surgeries or multiple implants can take hours. Sedation allows you to stay still and comfortable during extensive work.

Strong Gag Reflex

Patients with a sensitive gag reflex often struggle with dental tools. Sedation relaxes these muscles, making treatment possible.

Conscious Sedation vs. General Anesthesia

Conscious Sedation

You are semi-conscious, breathing on your own, and can communicate. It is much lighter on the body and recovery is almost immediate. Most commonly used for routine surgical procedures.

General Anesthesia

You are completely unconscious (asleep). Often used for very complex surgeries or patients with specific medical conditions. Requires longer recovery and specialized equipment.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about sedation safety and procedures.

Yes, it is extremely safe. At Bravodent, all sedation procedures are performed or supervised by a qualified anesthesiologist. We monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels continuously.
Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure. One of the side effects of the medications used is "antegrade amnesia," which is perfect for patients who want to forget the sounds or sensations of dental work.
Absolutely. Sedation is often recommended for pediatric patients who are extremely fearful or need extensive treatment. It prevents them from developing a lifelong fear of the dentist.
The effects start to fade immediately after we stop administering the medication. However, you will feel slightly drowsy for a few hours. You must have a responsible adult to drive you home.
